Vollständiger Abstract

Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?

Objective: To analyze nursing orders, identifying the most common care needs as well as the nursing interventions used to prevent urinary tract infections associated with indwelling urinary catheters. Methods: This is a descriptive, retrospective, quantitative study conducted in an adult intensive care unit at a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro. We reviewed 178 medical records of 155 patients with indwelling urinary catheters in place for more than 48 hours between October 2022 and October 2023. Results: A low rate of prescribing on the first day (38.2%) and a lack of justification for maintaining the catheter were identified in 91% of cases. There was a discrepancy between the duration of device use and the care records. Conclusion: There is a need to standardize processes, train staff, and implement protocols that promote safety and quality in the care provided.
