Subject. Remote work as a factor in the spatial mobility of human capital. Objectives. Comparing different remote work setups, identifying the pros and cons of new ways of organizing work. Methods. General scientific research methods were applied. Results. Permanent remote work basically eliminates commuting labor migration and leads to an increase in long-term interregional population movements. Temporary remote work (partially remote, hybrid jobs) reduces cyclic movements within settlements in favor of commuting between settlements (mainly along the 'city – suburb' route). The key feature of remote work is that an employee, according to their employment contract, performs their job duties from an alternative workplace outside the employer's direct control and uses modern communication tools and the Internet to exchange work results with the employer. Conclusions. The widespread adoption of remote work has both positive and negative effects on the stability of spatial development, so when developing overall state policy on remote work, it’s worth allowing for regional-level “targeted” decisions aimed at supporting new forms of work organization.
