Vollständiger Abstract

Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?

Studies investigating whether and how culture impacts social support and quality of life among diverse Asian American populations of breast cancer survivors often conflate race and ethnicity with culture, and investigate differences based on biological designations rather than understanding the unique ways beliefs and values contribute to health care practices. This article will be of relevance to researchers interested in identifying and recruiting underserved and made-to-be-vulnerable groups. This study applied a convergent mixed-methods design that involved in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and survey packet completion simultaneously occurring between three geographic regions and within three Asian American communities. Engagement in relationship building and discussions with community partners at each stage of recruitment was essential and provided evidence on how data collection strategies were modified to accommodate the diverse resources and capacities of community organizations at each regional site.
