Vollständiger Abstract
Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?
This narrative reflection traces 22-years of music therapy practice in South Africa, encompassing my clinical work in a non-profit residential home for persons with profound intellectual disabilities and therapeutic group work in private psychiatric hospitals as well as work in corporate well-being and clinical supervision and teaching in higher-education . The journey explores how advocacy for the profession intersected with clinical practice, leading to the creation of a full-time post, staff support programs, expansion of music therapy within hospitals and recognition of arts therapies by medical aid schemes. The narrative includes reflection on roles in clinical supervision, teaching, and professional development. Anchored in sound, symbol and story, this journey highlights the challenges and opportunities when practicing within diverse contexts. The narrative concludes with gratitude for practising across these diverse communities towards restoration and well-being in South Africa.
