Digital Platforms For Sustainability Education In Indonesia: A Systematic Review Of Usability And Equity

Climate change and declining environmental awareness among youth have made sustainability education a national priority in Indonesia, and digital platforms are increasingly promoted as scalable enablers of this agenda. Their integration into formal education, however, remains uneven and is constrained by infrastructure gaps and disparities in digital literacy across the archipelago. While prior systematic reviews have examined digital tools for environmental education globally, and separate reviews have mapped environmental-literacy research within Indonesia, few have synthesised digital platforms for sustainability education in the Indonesian context through the combined lens of usability and digital equity. This study addresses that gap. Following the PRISMA 2020 protocol, peer-reviewed studies published between 2021 and 2025 were retrieved from Google Scholar and the Directory of Open Access Journals using a predefined search strategy and screened against explicit inclusion and exclusion criteria. The review is guided by three questions concerning the types of platforms employed, the extent to which usability and user-centered design are evaluated, and the digital-equity barriers reported. The synthesis shows that platform development is dominated by interactive e-modules and is methodologically anchored in research and-development validation, yet formal usability evaluation using validated instruments is absent, and access or equity barriers are rarely examined. On this basis, the review proposes four design principles, namely progressive enhancement, offline-first architecture, embedded usability evaluation, and equity-aware deployment, which will directly inform the subsequent development of a web-based sustainability-education platform
