Vollständiger Abstract
Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?
Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is an immune-mediated inflammatory liver disease that may present a broad clinical spectrum, including acute liver failure. We report a 71-year-old Sri Lankan female presenting with jaundice, hepatocellular liver injury and acute liver failure secondary to AIH. The diagnosis was confirmed by liver biopsy despite negative serological markers. She was initially treated with corticosteroids and due to progression to liver failure, ultimately with plasma exchange. This case highlights diagnostic challenges and management strategies in elderly patients with seronegative AIH complicated by infection and hepatic encephalopathy, especially within resource-limited settings.
