Vollständiger Abstract

Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?

Introduction: A chest drain is a tube that is placed through the rib cage and into the pleural cavity of the chest to facilitate the evacuation of pus (emphysema), blood (haemothorax), fluid (pleural effusion), or air (pneumothorax). An appropriately positioned drain and an airtight, one-way drainage system are necessary for the efficient drainage of air, blood, or fluid from the pleural space in order to maintain sub-atmospheric intrapleural pressure. This permits the lung to expand again and the pleural contents to be drained. The overall aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching program (PTP) on knowledge regarding Chest tube drainage and its care among nursing students. Methodology: A qualitative research approach with a Quasi experimental with one group Pre-test Post-test design was used for the study to accomplish the objectives. The sample consisted of 60 nursing students. They were chosen by purposive sampling technique. The study was conducted in selected nursing college at Dehradun. A structured knowledge questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge regarding Chest tube drainage and its care. Reliability of the tool was test by using split half method. Result: The overall findings of the study shown that the comparison between pre-test and post-test knowledge score of nursing students regarding Chest tube drainage and its care. It was observed that during pretest mean was 18.58 with mean percentage of 53.08%, whereas during posttest mean was 27.66 with mean percentage 79.02%. Therefore, overall enhancement was 25.94%, Hence, the research hypothesis H1 is accepted and null hypothesis is rejected. The knowledge mean score of nursing students regarding Chest tube drainage and its care. The results showed the enhancement of knowledge with a mean score of 9.08 and the combined ‘t’ test value was significant i.e 19.648 at P0.05), Gender (χ2 = 0.622, p>0.05), educational qualification status (χ2 = 0.622, p>0.05), duration of clinical postings (χ2 = 6.570, p>0.05), Clinical postings in the department of pulmonary medicine (χ2 = 0.387, p>0.05) and source of information (χ2 = 3.584, p>0.05). The obtained p value for these variables is less than 0.05, which indicates that there is no significant association between Knowledge of nursing students regarding chest tube drainage and its care with selected socio-demographic variables. Hence, the research hypothesis H2 is accepted and null hypothesis is rejected. Conclusion: The present study in short gave the researcher a new experience, a chance to widen the knowledge and venue to work with student nurses. Constant encouragement and guidance of the guide, cooperation of the educational authorities and student nurses have contributed to the fruitful completion of the study.
