Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?

This article examines the labour policy discourses of Finnish right-wing parties during the period 2011–2023. The parliamentary election programmes of the National Coalition Party, the Finns Party, the Christian Democratic Party of Finland, and the Swedish People’s Party of Finland are analysed using critical discourse analysis. The analysis draws on research concerning neoliberal and right-wing populist labour and economic policy. The study asks what kinds of labour policy ideas are expressed by the discourses constructed from the parliamentary election programmes of right-wing parties during the period. The data revealed discourses centered on entrepreneurship, the profitability of work, Finnish workers, and opposition to growing income inequality. The discourse opposing growing income inequality found in the programmes of the Finns Party and the Christian Democrats is no longer observed after 2011. Market-oriented, incentive-based, and nationalist discourses assume a defining position. At the same time, the nationally bounded protection of workers advocated by the Finns Party has maintained the diversity of labour policy among right-wing parties during the period.
