Vollständiger Abstract
Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?
Against the strategic backdrop of expanding domestic demand and addressing population aging, this study examines the impact of commercial health insurance on household consumption using provincial panel data from China for 2014–2024. The results show that commercial health insurance significantly promotes household consumption expenditure, crowds out basic consumption, and positively affects developmental and enjoyment-oriented consumption. This positive effect is persistent, with lagged health insurance development continuing to promote household consumption. Moreover, the effects on basic and developmental consumption vary significantly across different levels of population aging. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen coordination among multiple levels of medical security, implement regionally differentiated and consumption-oriented health insurance strategies, and promote the transformation of insurance products toward enhanced protection and health consumption incentives.
