The study investigated the effects of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) on the financial goals and financial budgeting skills of secondary school teachers in Ganye, Adamawa State, Nigeria. The study used a true experimental research design, especially the pre-test -post-test control group design. The population consisted of all 341 teachers from the 40 Government Secondary Schools (GSS) in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The sample of 60 teachers were randomly assigned to two equal groups 30 teachers as experimental and 30 teachers as control group. The instrument used for data collection was Teachers Financial Management Skills /Teachers Pre-retirement Scales: (TFMSS/TPRS). The treatment package of cognitive behavioural therapy was administered by the researcher and research assistants to the experimental group for eight weeks. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation. The hypotheses formulated were tested using ANOVA statistic at a 0.05 alpha level of significance. Findings revealed that the financial goal-setting skills of secondary school teachers preparing for retirement increased due to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test financial goals setting skills mean scores of secondary school teachers preparing towards retirement in the experimental and control groups. The study recommended that the government, as a matter of urgency, create a sub unit in each ministry and employ counsellors that are specialist in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) charge with the responsibility of preparing workers for life after retirement.
