Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?
This study was carried out to investigate the Influence of Poverty on Academic Performance of Students in Public Secondary Schools in Benue State. Implication For Counselling. The research questions were based on the extent to which economic status of family affect academic performance of students, the extent to which community standard of living affect academic performance of students the extent to which educational background of parents affect academic performance of students, the extent to which status of parents affect academic performance of students and way of improving academic performance of students. Three hundred and twenty-three (323) students were randomly selected from three local government areas including Makurdi, Gwer and Gwer-West respectively, the data obtained were analyzed using, mean and standard deviation. The result of findings shows that; there is strong effect of poverty on academic performance of students. The researcher recommended that, parents of high and low socioeconomic status, school authorities, government and non-governmental organizations should channel their resources towards improving educational performance of all students irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds. It is also suggested that further study should be undertaken.
