Vollständiger Abstract

Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?

Advice to eat vegetables is usually framed as flexible, long-term guidance. On social media, however, it can be narrowed to a question asked at every meal about whether there is enough green on the plate. This article examines “green-vegetable anxiety” (qingcai jiaolü,青菜焦虑), a Chinese-language expression used in platform discourse to frame a meal or day without green vegetables as a source of unease. Drawing on a purposive search-card headline corpus (N = 50), a neutral comparison dataset (N = 30), and selected post-level material, the study considers how anxiety-oriented language differs from practical discussion of vegetable consumption. Playful references to symptoms and syndromes make the expression recognizable and shareable, while terms such as “every meal” turn occasional omission into an apparent failure requiring correction. The comparison shows that explicit anxiety and discomfort are tied closely to anxiety-oriented retrieval, whereas weight-control language and serial monitoring also appear in neutral searches. Substantive captions further locate vegetable routines in workplaces, cafeterias, food-delivery systems, affordability, preparation, and access. I describe visible green vegetables as a dietary compliance token with two discursive modes. It can mark omission as inadequacy, or coordinate practical adherence under everyday constraints. Platform interaction likewise makes both evaluation and situated troubleshooting available. The article therefore advances health communication research by showing how one visible food category can organize moral judgment and practical problem-solving without being reduced to a clinical condition or a uniform audience effect.
