Vollständiger Abstract

Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of digital ruqyah and spiritual self-diagnosis among urban Muslims within the broader transformation of religious practices in the digital media era. The expansion of online platforms has encouraged the consumption of ruqyah content through videos, social media, and digital preaching channels, enabling individuals to perform spiritual practices independently without direct interaction with religious practitioners. This research employs a qualitative field approach using perspectives from religious phenomenology and urban religious behavior studies. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with users of digital ruqyah, observation of online religious content, and documentation of self-diagnosis experiences. The findings reveal that digital ruqyah is frequently used as a rapid coping mechanism for psychological, social, and spiritual concerns. Spiritual self-diagnosis tends to emerge due to easy access to religious information, the need for certainty regarding emotional experiences, and the influence of popular narratives in digital religious content. However, such practices may also generate anxiety, religious misinterpretation, and delays in seeking professional psychological treatment. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of strengthening digital religious literacy, ensuring proper scholarly religious guidance, and integrating spiritual understanding with mental health awareness in urban Muslim religious development. This research contributes to the study of digital religion, contemporary Islamic education, and literacy-based religious outreach strategies in the technological era.
