Vollständiger Abstract
Worum geht es in dieser Arbeit?
The use of social media has become a daily practice among youth, occurring at an increasingly early age, with higher frequency, and with greater intensity. Although these platforms provide social interactions, access to information, and entertainment, their excessive use has raised concerns regarding potential consequences for brain functioning in neurodevelopmentally active individuals. The overall objective of this study was to analyze the neurological impacts of excessive social media use in young people, identifying patterns and correlations described in the scientific literature. The research was conducted through a qualitative literature review, consulting books, scientific articles, dissertations, and theses available in physical and virtual libraries, as well as in the scientific databases PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, Lilacs, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar. Controlled descriptors such as "social media", "youth", "neurological impacts", "cognitive functions", and "neurodevelopment" were used, combined with Boolean operators. Following screening and critical reading of the materials, the data were systematized through thematic categorization, which enabled the identification of main findings, divergences between studies, and gaps in scientific production on the topic. It was expected that the study would contribute, within the scientific domain, to the understanding of the neurological effects of intensive social media use in youth, promoting a well-founded and updated critical analysis. In the social sphere, the aim was to provide evidence to support educational actions, clinical interventions, and public policies directed toward mental health and the conscious use of digital technologies among adolescents and young adults.
