Time-Varying Impacts of Structural Oil Price Shocks on Economic Policy Uncertainty in China: The Role of a Hybrid Monetary Policy Tools Framework

Zhang Mengdi, Lee Chin, W.N.W. Azman Saini

Abstract This paper examines the time-varying responses of China’s economic policy uncertainty (EPU) to five structural oil-price shocks, with particular attention to the responses of price- and quantity-based monetary policy instruments. Using quarterly data from 2007Q2 to 2025Q1, we estimate a TVP-VAR-SV model that incorporates both the interest rate gap and the money supply gap to capture the coexistence of price- and quantity-based policy tools in China. The results show that only aggregate supply shocks elicit …

Association between visits to blue spaces within walking distance and mental health among older adults in Japan: a cross-sectional study from the Japan Gerontological Evaluation Study

Kazuki Matsumoto, Yu-Ru Chen, Yoko Matsuoka, Hiroaki Yoshida, Atsushi Nakagomi, Katsunori Kondo, Masamichi Hanazato

Abstract Background Exposure to blue spaces has been associated with better mental health, but most studies have focused on environmental proximity rather than actual use (frequency of visits and activity types) and have been conducted in Western countries. Evidence among older adults in Asian settings remains limited. This study examined the associations between frequency of visits to blue spaces within walking distance, activity types performed there, and mental health among older adults using data from 69 munici …

The Effect of Stud Flexibility on Lower Limb Biomechanical Demands in Football-Specific Movements

Gabriele Azzolini, Silvia Fantozzi, Andrea Ferretti, Ezio Preatoni

Background: Stud design is critical in modulating impact forces between football boot and turf, yet most systems prioritize traction using rigid materials, largely neglecting the role of material flexibility in load attenuation. This study assessed the biomechanical effects of 2 novel flexible stud designs compared with a traditional rigid stud during football-specific cutting and landing tasks. Hypothesis: Replacing traditional rigid studs with more flexible alternatives would reduce the magnitude and increase the …

From free association to free parameters: machine-learning empowers artificial intelligence models to rate the affective-relational aspects of narratives like an expert psychologist

Caleb J. Siefert, Barry Dauphin, Jenelle Slavin-Mulford, Sai Dileep Kumar Mukkamala, Venkat Akhila Reddy Tatipally, Areen Alsaid, Abdallah Chehade

Background Narrative assessment offers unique insight into psychological functioning but is resource-intensive, requiring extensive expert training and time. Recent work suggests Artificial Intelligence (AI), including moderately sized, adaptable large language models (LLMs), can master narrative assessment's complex, multi-step scoring rules. This study examined whether fine-tuning could enable AI raters to accurately assess narratives. Method We fine-tuned five diverse LLMs (3–7 billion parameters) on two dataset …

150 The Value of Early Biological Information in Glioblastoma Drug Development: A Health Economic Evaluation of Window-of-Opportunity Trials

Melyda Melyda, Sue Jowett, Peter Auguste, Victoria Wykes, Collin Watts, Gary Middleton, Vinton Cheng

Abstract Introduction Window-of-opportunity (WoO) trials are increasingly proposed in glioblastoma drug development to test early biological activity (tumour penetration and target engagement), before progression to large, costly late-phase trials. While WoO designs may improve early decision-making, they introduce additional operational complexity and upfront costs. Their economic value remains uncertain. Methods An early decision-analytic model was developed to assess the cost-effectiveness of incorporating a WoO …

What limits a bystander’s action to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in China? Insights from a cross-sectional study conducted in Shaanxi Province

Dongdong Li, Kun Wang, Qiang Fu, Yan Li, Wangang Guo, Xiaolan Guo, Xin Zhang, Yuchan Hu, Liping Liao, Zhuoni Ma, Xin Chen, Miaomiao Cheng

Background Rate of bystander-initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) remains critically low in China. Identifying the underlying reasons may help reduce mortality from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 572 participants in Shaanxi, China. A researcher-developed questionnaire was used to assess four domains: ability to recognize the need for CPR, willingness to perform CPR, internal concerns about initiating CPR, and actual CPR competence. Teachers’ Dual Work Pressure, Emotional Labor, and Job Burnout in China Under the “Double Reduction” Policy

Penghui Hu, Ruilin Gao, Shasha Du

China's implementation of the “Double Reduction” (DR, Shuangjian ) policy has raised occupational demands for educators, intensified societal expectations and parental oversight, and thus exacerbated teachers’ family and interpersonal pressure. Based on survey data from 300 primary and secondary school teachers, this study explores the mechanism through which teachers’ dual work pressure is linked to job burnout via emotional labor. The results show that work pressure does not necessarily lead to job burnout, and d …

Stigma as a Social Determinant of Health: A Policy Classification Framework and Call to Action

LISA CARTER‐BAWA

Policy Points Stigma functions as a social determinant of health (SDOH), producing population health inequities through resource deprivation, social exclusion, constrained health care, physiological stress, and diminished agency—yet it lacks formal SDOH classification. Because stigma operates as a fundamental cause of health inequalities, policy responses must extend beyond health care systems to encompass housing, employment, education, and social participation. Discrimination is already classified as an SDOH; for …
