Estimating the prevalence of high-risk drug users using multi-method estimation

Rožė Perminienė, Natalja Istomina, Rimantas Stukas, Alma Molytė

Introduction When conducting studies related to drug use, researchers around the world face the challenge of obtaining the most accurate and reliable data on the extent of drug use, when direct research instruments are difficult to use (direct survey of subjects due to the illegality of the activity is not possible). Problematic high-risk drug use is especially harmful when these substances are used in risky or high-risk ways. Three drug use prevalence studies have been conducted in Lithuania (2006, 2010, 2017); th …

Mental health literacy: evidence from adolescences in IRAN

Farzane Ahmadi, Farzaneh Karamitanha, Roya Karimi

Measuring health literacy levels in different regions and among various target groups is important. Methods In this cross-sectional study, all students enrolled across three majors – medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy – were surveyed (n=296). Data we …

Plasmid-mediated antimicrobial resistance across One Health sectors: transmission dynamics and surveillance needs

Nuha Fairusya, Rongxuan Wang, Ryo Honda

ABSTRACT Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is increasingly recognized as a One Health challenge driven by the continuous exchange of resistant bacteria and resistance determinants across human, animal, and environmental sectors. While genomic surveillance has substantially improved detection of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs), most monitoring frameworks remain gene- or isolate-centric, limiting insight into the mechanisms that govern resistance transmission and persistence. Recent evidence indicates that plasmid …

No effect of learning from excellence on patient safety culture in a postanaesthesia care unit: a longitudinal quasi-experimental study

Gørill Birkeli, Owen Matthew Truscott Thomas, Randi Ballangrud, Ellen Catharina Tveter Deilkås, Anne Karin Lindahl

Abstract Background The prevailing strategy for combating surgically related adverse events (AEs) is to anticipate and prevent them by learning from adverse events (Safety-I). However, not all AEs can be anticipated or prevented in complex systems. This requires more focus on how daily work succeeds, that is, resilient and adaptive behaviour (Safety-II). Learning from success and promoting a positive patient safety culture (PSC) are key global strategies for eliminating preventable AEs. As a patient safety initiati …
